• How | Does it work?

According to our experience we acquired during the first COVID-19 lock-down, the students (age between 4 and 60), continued without any problems their instrumental music course in online mode. We don't know yet if there will be any further limitations, the current COVID situation may still change.
Online music lessons work very well and are offered since more than 15 years by different music schools. Online music lessons can provide an audio-visual experience similar to an in-person class. Music files, exercises, sheet music or tutorial videos can be shared through the internet between teacher and student. Many online lessons are lower in cost than traditional music classes, in addition to being more convenient. Self-led tutorials can be completed at any time, making them attractive for people with hectic or unusual schedules. Live sessions can be easier to arrange when the time of commuting to class is subtracted, making online music lessons appealing to busy families. Online lessons can be also recorded so the student can review the lesson later.
Online music classes also hold appeal for those students who do not have a teacher locally available. Students living in remote areas often do not have many options available to them, either in skill level or instrument variety. Taking classes online opens up the possibility of learning any instrument, with options for beginner or advanced lessons. Online music lessons can also be used to sample an instrument before committing to lessons, or to learn an instrument similar to one you already know without taking on the full expense of in-person music classes. It is worth mentioning that not all online music lessons are created with equal personalization, care and detail, some are far superior and some fall flat. At the end what matters is, who is your teacher on the other side of your screen.

• What | Equipment?

For a quick, basic setup all you need is an internet connection and a device of your choice. It can be a PC Notebook, Tablet, a MacBook, iPad and even a Smartphone. There are many free apps that can be used to make a video/conference call. If you have no experience with any of those apps, here you'll find a few suggestions. Of course, you can have a more sophisticated setup, by adding a bigger screen, sound card, speakers and a microphone - depending on your chosen instrument - to maximize your learning experience.

Online Choir?
Yes! We think, that it is actually possible. Well, if technically it is possible to connect with your teacher through a video call to do your individual online lessons, then it should also be possible to proceed with group courses the same way. What all participants of the choir have to do is simple: to use the same video-call (conference) app at the same time (like ZOOM). This idea is in the development phase. If we'd have a group of 6-8 interested students, we could test the idea soon.
